Work with families takes the form of individual coaching, facilitation of parent groups in my office or a community setting, and workshops or presentations for large parent groups focused on a topic of interest or a Q & A format. During coaching, parents, family members and/or caregivers discuss areas of parenting challenges within the context of cultural and parenting goals. I teach positive parenting techniques and help families reflect on the meaning of their children’s behavior as well as the role they may play in promoting that behavior. Observations of children and families at home or at school are conducted as needed. Initial appointments are usually one-and-a-half to two hours and follow-up appointments last fifty minutes. Most families find resolution within two to three follow-ups. For a non-exhaustive list of workshops, please see Sample Workshop List.
